“So nice, they built it twice!”
The twenty-first century began auspiciously for Sun Peaks Resort, with the announcement of $70 million dollars in investments, including a $40 million 226-room deluxe hotel with an 12,000 square foot conference centre, completion of the 18 hole par 72 golf course, as well as lift and trail development on Mt. Morrisey.
Construction on the hotel began in 2001 and progressed uneventfully until a devastating fire destroyed it in October of that year, forcing it to be re-constructed. This time, work progressed rapidly and the hotel ultimately opened only one year later, in October 2002.
Five years later in November 2007, the Residences opened its doors, raising the bar with luxurious furnished apartments for both sale and overnight rentals. This added a new dimension to the already popular hotel, making it more attractive for extended stays.
Initially managed by Delta Hotels & Resorts, the hotel originally opened under the name Delta Sun Peaks Resort. After 12 years successfully building awareness and a loyal clientele, the owners chose to assume independent management of their hotel in Spring of 2014, renaming it Sun Peaks Grand Hotel & Conference Centre and The Residences at Sun Peaks Grand.
These names were carefully selected after thorough consideration to reflect the owner’s vision for the destination and their high expectations for its landmark property within the village, “to provide the finest mountain resort hotel experience”.
